Gastric
bypass surgery should be a last resort, not a choice of convenience

talks about Raechel Arnold -- a teenage girl who has undergone gastric
bypass surgery and managed to lose a significant amount of weight,
dropping from 323 lbs to 165 lbs. The article reads like a brochure
for gastric bypass surgery, showing just how successful the procedure
has been for this girl.
This is all part of a
recent wave of publicity for gastric bypass surgery as a treatment
for obesity, but there's a problem with this approach to surgical
procedures and the related publicity in the national press: Too
many people are turning to gastric bypass surgery as a choice of
convenience -- because they're simply not interested in doing the
other things that can help a person lose weight, such as making
new food choices or engaging in regular physical exercise.
Interestingly, most people
end up making these changes after they've had gastric bypass surgery,
except now they're missing part of their digestive tract, and the
damage to their bodies simply cannot be reversed.
